For those who know that we live in MN. Neither Doug or I travel across the 35W bridge over the Mississippi in our normal commute. I do work a few miles south of the bridge and some of my co-workers do cross that bridge during their commute. At this time, we are not aware of any of our co-workers or friends being on the bridge at the time of the collapse. This bridge is near downtown and the collapse happened in the middle of rush hour. Currently, there are six confirmed deaths.

I have been watching CNN and saw this on the Yahoo home page! I immediately called my sister up there, and checked on them. They are all ok too. I then thought of you and so am very glad to know you are ok. We will be praying for all those who are involved in this horrible accident! And hope it is none of your friends or co-workers. Our hearts go out to all those involved. I am just horrified!

Holly, thanks for thinking of us. I'm glad to hear that your sister is safe. There is always a sigh of relief when you manage to reach those you care about.
Unfortunately, there are now seven confirmed deaths. They have have temporarily stopped searching the river and will resume in the morning. There was a school bus on the bridge. A few of the kids were injured but none were serious(I think).
EEeeeek! That looks terrible.
So pleased that you and friends and family are ok.
Let's hope the number of deaths doesn't increase.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. There was one person from my company on the bridge. He was injured and is still hopitalized. Another (whose desk is close to mine) was 400 yards from being on the bridge.
The families of those killed or injured continue to be foremost in our thoughts. Everyone here, whether they were in the area or not, has been deeply affected by this tragedy.
