The dog park and things people say

Instead of the normal park report, we're going to share some of the comments/questions that we hear at the dog park. And rarely does someone see us without making some kind of comment.

Yesterday, someone said one of the things that really bothers Momma.
Question= "Since you have one of each, are you going to breed them?"
Momma ="Eva is not breeding quality and Brice's contract required him to be neutered"
She tries to not get into the responsible breeding speech in this type of casual conversation but if it continues she does bring up puppy mills and breed rescues.

Another one from yesterday
Question - "Is he aggressive?"
Momma - "No he's not, is there a reason why you asked?"
Questioner - "He stands tall with his head held high and shoulders back"
Momma - "He is a very confident dog with some dominant traits but he is not aggressive"

Question - "Collie mix?, german shepherd mix?, husky mix?"
Momma - "Actually, they are a less common breed called Belgian Tervuren"
There was one guy who asked if we were from the same litter of mixes and would not believe Momma when she said that we are actually a breed.
Actually we think it's funny when kids say that we're fox dogs or wolf dogs.

Such a happy boy! Hard to get zoomie shots since the grass is so high.
Dad keeps asking Brice if he is part white-tail deer.

Question - "Do they shed?"
Momma - thinking Duh!! politely answers "Yes"

Question - "What are they bred for?"
Momma - "Originally herding but now they are also used for Search and Rescue, service dogs and law enforcement."

The most common comments are that we are beautiful, friendly, move so gracefully and love to run.

Woof ya later!

Firstly great pics as always - they are truly beautiful dogs.

I know your pain - try walking woodrow sometime - between the fact that he has a very confident waddle about him (think muscle head human who cant put arms down at there sides) - the masked face markings - the egg head - the squinty eyes - and the words PIT BULL in american vocabulary (they are English Bull Terriers)

I have people leave the park when they see him the same people who for the last 3 years have seen him playing with the other kids - and small dogs - and him rolling in the grass like an idiot - but they still call him Killer Dog.

I have come to the conclusion people can be very stupid and i have to ignore it or else the lawyer comes out in me and i have to defend them.

They are my kids
Deb - Woodorw, Sweetie MJ

PS - we dont even address the breeding issue - and forget the horror i cause when i walk all 3 together

WOOO! We understand, people are always asking Mom if I am a wolf and lots of kids are scared me. It is so sad. Do I look like a 45lb wolf?
Mom says people are ignorant, at puppy class she prints out a description of the breed people own with temperament and what the breed was used for so they understand what they have.

Wow people can be dumb. The question I get most with Storm is if she's a wolf. I simply say "wolves don't have blue eyes." :)

sigh--we get the questions too. our mom had to be trained to zip her lip because she gets huffy and self rightous when the uneducated people don't know about puppy mills and such and feels she has to educate the world. then she gets in a frenzy and the people don't respond well to her so that really didn't help anything in the end. we feel your pain. but truthfully--we would have asked all those OTHER questions about you too. you really are such lookers, no wonder people are curious

Eva and Brice are both so beautiful they will always attract attention. Perhaps you could print off a list of the most often asked questions for a hand-out. But then there would be the litter problem when they just dropped them after reading!

Stella

Bipeds ask the silliest questions! Our mom tries very hard not to laugh at the ones we get. :)
I love the pictures - you two have the best adventures!!! I especially like the "happy boy" shot!!!

Some people do ask the dumbest questions, don't they? We love those most common comments. We find that we get our best compliments from the men we see on our walks. We get a lot of the wolf question too.

Beautiful shots of both of them.

BTW, are they friendly? LOLOLOL

Chuckling - your hu-mom is showing great restraint. Our hu-dad is usually patient with all of the questions, but has to restrain himself to the crazy ones. Since we live in a tourist area, many people think we are part of the "show."

Sort of like the vacationer at a house near us who had trash out on the rental house's porch. Our hu-dad calmly suggested that they put the trash up so as not to attract bears. The visitor replied that the bears are not allowed outside of the "park" - the Great Smoky Mountain National Park whose border is within sight of the house. Oh.

P.S. - Our most common question is "Where is the sled?" We answer, in the garage.

People are so weird... Mom's been told that I'm a boxer, a pit bull, french bulldog and boston terrier (those are not so weird).. But a grown man actually ARGUED with mom when she claimed I was a grown pug and not a boxer puppy.. Like.. uh.. She's had me for years, I think she'd know ;)

We have several of the belgian sheepdogs around here (Terv, Lakenois and Malanois but no Groendals), but they're not too common in Norway outside the circles of people who work with their dogs.

What is Brice's response when your dad asks him if he's part deer?

We get that breeding question too, even after Mom says we're littermates. Gross!

Tee hee (oh I sound like Ammy) - Misery had a good laugh reading those questions.

Someone stroked me today - and then after she asked if I would bite her. When Master assured her that I am not a bitey dog she stroked me again.

I laughed.
